There's a generation of youth with outstanding potential, but a lack of positive father-figures to shepherd them.
WHO WE ARE
Future Shepherds is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2015 by Reggie Jackson in Hogansville, Georgia. After playing basketball professionally in Europe(Portugal and United Kingdom) for several years, Reggie returned to his home town and immediately saw a great need. He saw a generation of youth with outstanding potential, but a lack of positive father-figures to shepherd them. Reggie knew his success was in a large part because of the guidance his own father provided.
Throughout high school Reggie was surrounded by extremely talented athletes, but he watched as the lack of mentorship and accountability in their lives led them to make poor decisions. It was a vicious cycle, a spiral that was hard to escape. He realized that he could have easily fallen down that path if it weren’t for his parents that brought structure into his life.
So that’s the problem: a lack of guidance and positive male authority figures in the lives of these young people.
What’s the solution?
Future Shepherds aims to connect positive role models with the young people that desperately need them. Reggie aims to expose the kids in his program to the kind of pivotal experiences that can change the trajectory of their life forever. He wants to help them escape the cycle.
“I want to expose to inspire,” Reggie says. “By exposing these kids to all the opportunities that are out there for them, I want to inspire them to think big. Bigger than just the small town mindset it’s easy to become stuck in.”
