We’re excited you’re interested in the Future Shepherds Mentorship Program. This program has the potential to change the lives of young people in the area, and it’s people like yourself who makes this program possible.
What is the Mentorship Program?
We’re looking for local artists, craftsmen, entrepreneurs, coaches and teachers who are willing to take an hour out of their week to mentor some of the underprivileged or underserved youth of our community. We believe that by exposing these youth to a variety of trades and skills, we can show them that there is a world of opportunity out there. And by giving them a structured environment with positive role models, seeds of change can be planted that could impact the course of their lives.
So what’s next?
We’d like to design each course around a six week syllabus. Whether you’re a potter or an acting professor, we’d like to design a six week course that exposes these kids to the exciting and interesting parts of your craft.
We will assign three to seven of the youth to your weekly class. These are youth that we think will have an interest and aptitude for what you are teaching. Classes work well when they aren’t set in the typical classroom environment. Hands on teaching, physical activity and conversational based teaching models seem to work well. We don’t want this to feel like an extension of school, but instead a relationship building and influential experience.
What we need you to do:
If you’re interested in participating in this program, please give us a little background about yourself, some hours throughout the week that would work for you, and some sample lesson ideas.
We will use this to select the Future Shepherd participants that would best be suited for your field of expertise.
From there, the learning can begin!
